Gethin Jones pulled out of presenting 'Morning Live' today (14.04.21) as the area he lives in was "affected by surge coronavirus testing".
The BBC show began with Gethin's co-host Kym Marsh revealing he wasn't in today, but show regular Rav Wilding stepped in to replace him.
She said: "No Gethin today - he lives in an area affected by the surge testing but keeping his seat very warm is our Rav."
But Gethin later appeared on the programme via video link, and admitted it was "the right thing to do" to stay at home and take a COVID test.
His result was negative, so he will return to 'Morning Live' tomorrow (15.04.21).
Kym told him: "We miss you."
Gethin replied: "I miss you too.
"It's very strange this morning, getting up and not going to work but as you've just said it's the right thing to do.
"I am in an area where we've been asked to do our PCR test.
"I'm delighted to say that I've already had the test back and it is negative, so I will be back tomorrow.
"It's really weird isn't it Kym, we were chatting yesterday about being excited to do the normal things again and how lovely it was to go and get a haircut.
"And so many people were talking about going out for a drink, but as Doctor Xand, Doctor Rupy, Dr Punam have been saying - we are making some brilliant, positive developments with the fight against COVID, but we need to proceed with caution.
"So, following the guidelines, we are so super safe at work, we follow the guidelines outside of work but we just have to be careful the whole time.
"It's a bit weird watching you from home, but I know you've got a great show ahead."
Earlier today, it was revealed surge testing in London has been increased after another case of the South African coronavirus variant was detected.
Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said: "If you’re asked to take a PCR test, it’s crucial that you do so to help track and limit any cases."
