Geoffrey Palmer has died aged 93.
The veteran actor - who was known for his roles in the likes of ‘The Fall And Rise Of Reginald Perrin’, ‘As Time Goes By’, and ‘Butterflies’ - died peacefully at home on Thursday (05.11.20) at the age of 93.
In a statement, his agent confirmed: "We regret to sadly announce that the actor Geoffrey Palmer died peacefully at home yesterday aged 93.”
Palmer was awarded an OBE in 2004 for his services to drama, and was also known for appearing in ‘Fawlty Towers’, ‘Doctor Who’ and the James Bond film ‘Tomorrow Never Dies’.
Following the sad news of his passing, tributes have flooded in for the prolific actor, with comedian Eddie Izzard and director Edgar Wright leading the messages of remembrance.
Eddie wrote: "Very sad to hear that Geoffrey Palmer has left us. I was very excited to meet him once and then had the honour to act with him in the film Lost Christmas. His work will stay with us and through that he can live on forever. Good work Sir. Rest in peace.”
Whilst Edgar tweeted: “The flight path gag wiping out the lines of Reggie Perrin’s brother in law is one of my favourite running gags in comedy. RIP to the brilliantly funny Geoffrey Palmer. (sic)”
Broadcaster and author Gyles Brandreth also paid tribute, as did comedian Marcus Brigstocke, who had starred with Palmer in BBC One sitcom ‘The Savages”.
Gyles wrote: "RIP Geoffrey Palmer - such a wonderful actor, such a lovely guy. Brilliant at his craft and just the best company: wickedly funny. He did everything he did so well. Thanks for all the happy memories Geoffrey: we'll cherish them as time goes by.”
Palmer is survived by his wife Sally Green, with whom he had a daughter and a son.
