The former 'Emmerdale' star and the 'Strictly Come Dancing' professional dancer welcomed their first child, daughter Mia, into the world on July 4, and after they officially registered the birth, Gemma told her partner that they need to tie the knot so she has the same surname as their little family.

Speaking on 'Hits Radio Breakfast' with Fleur East, Greg Burns and James Barr, she said: "Yeah you get them registered.

"Yeah it was quite sad because until then apparently they officially take the mum's name but once registered she's an official Marquez.

"And I'm the only one now who's not a Marquez in the family.

Greg said: "Let me just pick up that hint!"

Gemma, 34, continued: " I said to him 'You do know now we need to get married otherwise I'm not part of the family'.

"He's like, 'Yeah we have time, it's OK.'"

The blonde beauty was left fighting for her life after the dramatic birth, but she reassured listeners that she and baby are "fit and all healthy".

She said: "Yes. We had a bit of a traumatic time in labour which is one of them things obviously you can't plan you can hope for the best but you can't plan anything.

"And she was just so little bless her so she couldn't get out.

"But we're all well, we're all fit, all healthy and Bolton Hospital were fantastic. So yeah I feel great."

Gemma has found comfort in receiving messages from other women who have gone through a similar experience.

She said: "... It's been nice actually I've had loads of messages from women who've had similar things and you think oh gosh, I'm glad it's not just me, you know what I mean?

"Cause a lot of people say, 'Oh I thought it was something that I ate or some exercise that I did or maybe I walked a bit too far', and it's just nothing to do with that it's just Mother Nature unfortunately."

Gemma - who will take over as co-host of the 'Drivetime Show with Wes Butters' in 2020 - recently revealed the ordeal she went through.

She wrote on Instagram: "I was having a haemorrhage. A big one & I lost a lot of blood. (sic)"

She later added: "Mia was a tiny baby, 4lb 10. With that in mind the midwife was concerned she wouldn't be strong enough to open my cervix.

"My water broke on a tues & we gave her the benefit of the doubt but by the Wednesday evening despite her being in the perfect place & so low down, she still hadn't managed it.

"The decision was made to induce me to help her along but she disliked that even more. With every contraction her heart rate dropped.

"On the 3rd one midwife Katie who was taking care of me at the time pressed the panic alarm & within 15 mins I was rushed out, prepped & delivered Mia via an emergency C section.

"It wasn't what I'd planned but thanks to my hypnobirthing despite the madness & panic, I was able to calmly keep my breathing technique & accept whatever is best for Mia just do it! (sic)"
