Gary Barlow reportedly paid a large sum of money in exchange for advertisement of his new album on the ITV soap 'Coronation Street'.

A spot outside Audrey's hair salon on the Cobbles was purchased in the hopes of persuading the soap's millions of viewers to buy his new release.

Jack P.Shepherd - who plays conniving David Platt in the ITV programme - posted a photograph of the poster on Twitter, alongside the caption, "Spot the ad".

John Elsworth, a fan of the show, commented: "You know you've made it big when you've got a poster on Coronation Street".

To which Jack replied: "or paid 'em enough money. (sic)".

Advertisement expert Nigel Currie told The Sun newspaper: "I think we are going to see a lot more product placement in our favourite shows. Gary's team have been very savvy. I would imagine he paid a high five-figure sum for the premium spot. Around eight million people will see it a few times a week."

Meanwhile, the 'X Factor' UK judge recently signed up to appear in the commercial for comparison site Compare the Market, which was being shot on the set of Weatherfield in Manchester.

The hunky star was spotted wearing exercise gear as he pranced around with some of 'Coronation Street's regular faces as they filmed a new set of adverts, which will replace the existing footage and be shown before, during and after the programme.

Gary's new album, which is yet to be named, will be released on November 18.
