'The X Factor' contestants have been banned from drinking alcohol on board a flight to the Judges' Houses.
The wannabe pop stars were looking forward to a few celebratory drinks after successfully reaching boot camp, but they were left disappointed when flight attendants told them they were only allowed one alcoholic beverage each for the whole duration of the flight in a bid to prevent wild behaviour in the cabin.
A show source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Last year there was some criticism over the behaviour of some of the acts getting too drunk and being unruly.
"Producers decided to step in to stop contestants getting over excited with the free alcohol on offer on the plane.
"They are all only young guys so some of them won't have been able to resist the temptation, so we made sure it wasn't there.
"The contestants were hyped enough without any alcohol and they did have to be told a number of times to keep the noise down as lots of them were singing throughout.
"We didn't want them to get too unruly in front of other passengers and annoying them.
"Given that all the groups have a packed filming schedule when they are in New York, it wouldn't have been good if they had to deal with hangovers as well as jet-lag."
However, chaos kicked in before the groups had even boarded to plane as one member of a band had left his passport in his suitcase, which had already been checked in, and security were forced to retrieve the bag before anyone could enter the aircraft.
The six acts will perform for Gary Barlow and his guest this week on a New York rooftop before the final three groups are chosen for the live shows.
