The 45-year-old was airlifted to hospital following a car crash on Monday (12.12.22) while shooting an episode of the BBC programme, and now his son has given an update on his condition.

Corey, 16, told the MailOnline: "He's OK. I'm not too sure what happened but he is lucky to be alive.

"It was a pretty nasty crash. It is shocking. We are all shocked but just hope he's going to be OK."

Meanwhile, a spokesman for 'Top Gear' has confirmed the incident is being "fully investigated" to see what went wrong.

They said: "Our primary concern is the welfare of Freddie - as well as the 'Top Gear' team.

"All health and safety procedures were followed on site and the incident is now being fully investigated in line with standard policy and procedure."

The crash occurred at the show's test track at Dunsfold Aerodrome in Surrey, and a BBC spokesperson previously confirmed the accident.

They said earlier this week: "Freddie was injured in an accident at the Top Gear test track this morning – with crew medics attending the scene immediately.

"He has been taken to hospital for further treatment and we will confirm more details in due course."

Freddie became a presenter of 'Top Gear' in 2019, and the former England captain was involved in a crash shortly after joining the BBC show.

The incident happened during a drag race involving fellow presenters Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris.

He said at the time: "I go to great lengths to make sure I do well in 'Top Gear' drag races but, on this occasion, I went a few lengths too far. It will look more ridiculous than dangerous when you see it on TV."
