Former Lord Chancellor David Gauke was “surprised” to see civil servant Sharon Gaffka has signed up for 'Love Island'.
The 25-year-old star worked with the politician in 2018 at the Ministry of Justice, where she provided administrative support, and has since dubbed the former chancellor "very human, very natural and very funny”.
David said the compliments are “very kind”, and he added: “Being a Cabinet Minister can be a pretty serious business most of the time, but there are the occasional lighter moments.
"I suppose, as Lord Chancellor, I was trying to cultivate a reputation for authority and gravitas, but if I came across as fun, I won’t complain.”
Sharon - who is an Operations Lead for the Department of Transport - is happy to share her political knowledge with the other Islanders, and David believes that is "no bad thing".
He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “People aren’t going to be tuning into 'Love Island' to learn about Brexit, but if Sharon is able to make a few points, reaching a wider audience, that’s no bad thing.”
David hasn't watched the programme before, but is considering sticking ITV2 on to check in on Sharon's progress throughout the series.
Sharon - who has also taken part in beauty pageants - recently admitted she has been helping out the Department of Health amid the coronavirus pandemic.
She said: "I've been a civil servant since I was 18. I've worked in lots of different departments.
"I've been doing Brexit policy for the last year, I did a stint during the coronavirus pandemic in the Department of Health so I was helping deliver testing kits and managing the operations.
"It's been an intense year!"
