The 50-year-old reality star had an operation to fit metal plates into his ankle after a nasty fall whilst training for the ITV figure skating show in the hope it would be fixed, however, he will no longer be competing in next year’s show.

A spokesperson for 'Dancing On Ice' told the MailOnline: "Stephen Lustig-Webb has had to withdraw from the show due to an injury he sustained to his ankle during training. He is still very much a part of the Dancing On Ice family, we will be helping to support Stephen and we wish him well with his recovery."

Stephen and his partner Daniel Lustig recently confirmed their exit from 'Gogglebox' explaining they had decided to bow out so they could pursue other opportunities.

In a joint statement posted on Instagram, the couple explained: "We feel like the time is right to move on and explore new opportunities. We would both like to thank Channel 4 and Studio Lambert for letting us be part of this amazing, funny, and heart-warming show.

"We are also extremely thankful to the cast and crew, our 'Gogglebox' family as we call them and of course, the fans, thank you for all your love and support over the years."

Stephen having to depart the show before it starts comes after professional skater Matt Evers quit after 15 years.

In a statement issued to The Sun, he said: "I have some news to share. I knew this day would come at some point, but I won’t be returning to Dancing on Ice this series. After 15 series of the show, it was sadly time to hang up the skates for now. I have loved every minute of it (honestly!)

"I’ve had some incredible partners over the years, and we have created some fantastic TV moments! I mean who can forget that fall from Gemma, or the wardrobe malfunction from Pamela!"

He continued: "And I was honoured to make history with H as the first ever UK same-sex televised partnership. To all my leading ladies (and H) it was a pleasure! Bonnie Langford, Lara Bingle/Worthington (Australian Dancing on Ice), Lisa Scott Lee, Suzanne Shaw, Zoe Salmon, Heather Mills, Denise Welch, Jorgie Porter, Pamela Anderson, Candice Brown, Gemma Collins, Ian ‘H’ Watkins, Denise Van Outen, Faye Brooks, Sally Dynevor and Patsy Palmer."
