Alan Halsall - who plays mechanic Tyrone - revealed his alter-ego is sick of lying and decides to come clean to the police about Hope's involvement in the fire, even though her mother Fiz tried to take the fall.

However, this leads Fiz to ban him from seeing Hope - whose father is Fiz's ex John Stape - and Ruby Dobbs - Tyrone's daughter with his late ex Kirsty Soames.

He told Digital Spy: "Tyrone is torn, he has lost a baby with Alina Pop which he is devastated about, but in the end all of his lies to Fiz, Evelyn [Plummer - Tyrone's grandmother] and [his girlfriend] Alina have actually caught up with him and he doesn't want to keep lying. He realises the only way out of this situation is to tell the truth.

"He thinks that if he tells the truth and he is honest about Hope then she will get away with a lighter consequence, he doesn't really think that they will come down on her heavily because she is a child.

"I don't think it's something that he really thinks through, he just knows that he has to tell the truth for the first time throughout this whole situation.

"He knew that Fiz would be cross because Fiz was willing to go to any lengths to protect Hope.

"But when Fiz tells Tyrone to stay away from the whole family and the children, it cuts Tyrone deep because he feels now he has started to get on the right track and do what is right for his family again. He feels like it all comes back in his face when Fiz says that."

However, Alan says Tyrone - whose partner Alina Pop suffered a miscarriage after the fire - believes that Hope needs help.

He explained: "Tyrone would be devastated [if Hope goes to trial], the last thing he wants is his little girl in a courtroom.

"But he also knows that Hope has got problems and Tyrone has just lost a child to this tragic accident so he feels that Hope should admit to some of it or take that onboard. However the last thing that he would want would be his little girl to go on trial."
