Amazon have this week revealed their first look picture of Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning actor Jon Hamm in the role of Archangel Gabriel, in upcoming Prime Original series Good Omens. You can check out the image below:
Speaking about the look, costume designer on the series Claire Anderson commented: “Gabriel is the leader of the angels, and the most stylish and impeccably dressed of all of them, so we chose an immaculately tailored suit that Jon Hamm wears to perfection, in light colours, along with lilac accessories to bring out Gabriel’s unnerving violet eyes.”
Based on the best-selling novel by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, the BBC Studios adaptation is currently in production around the UK, with a launch date set for 2019 on Amazon Prime Video ahead of the show also coming to the UK on BBC Two at a later date.
Speaking about his role, Hamm said: “I read Good Omens almost twenty years ago. I thought it was one of the funniest, coolest books I’d ever read. It was also, obviously, unfilmable. Two months ago Neil sent me the scripts, and I knew I had to be in it.”
Gaiman went on to add: “Gabriel is everything that Aziraphale isn’t: he’s tall, good-looking, charismatic and impeccably dressed. We were fortunate that Jon Hamm was available, given that he is already all of these things without even having to act. We were even more fortunate that he’s a fan of the books and a remarkable actor.”
Highly acclaimed director and executive producer Douglas Mackinnon is the man bringing the series to the small screen, with Hamm joined in the cast by the likes of Adria Arjona, Anna Maxwell Martin, Michael Sheen, Reece Shearsmith, David Tennant and Jack Whitehall.
We’ll bring you more news on Good Omens as and when we get it.
