"Finn wonderfully blends confidence with vulnerability", says Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb after Marvel confirmed today the actor would be taking up the role of Danny Rand AKA Iron Fist on the Netflix series.
"[That makes] him the perfect choice as he struggles to find his place in the world. Now that we've found our Danny Rand, we've completed our principal cast for the upcoming Defenders on Netflix and we are thrilled to continue to show audiences unexplored corners of the Marvel Universe."
Executive producer and showrunner on Iron Fist, Scott Buck adds: "Danny Rand is a very complicated character. He's a billionaire New York Buddhist monk martial arts superhero who's still trying to figure out what exactly that all means. Finn is able to play all these levels in such an honest, revelatory way that as soon as I saw him I knew he was our Danny."
The tweet teasing the announcement from Marvel earlier today, seen above, also confirms another character we'll be meeting when Iron Fist hits Netflix - Joy Meachum.
Looking for information about Rand, Meachum is in the comic book universe a businesswoman groomed to take over at the Rand-Meachum Corporation. Despite her association with the Rands, she blames Iron Fist for the murder of her father Harold, unaware that her father is in fact the man that murdered the Rand family.
Iron Fist, innocent to all that may have to in this new series dodge her attempts at revenge whilst trying to find the person truly responsible - an assassin known only as The Ninja.
Another notable link to the comic book world with Iron Fist is his close association with Luke Cage, with the pair becoming allies and best friends. Because of that, it's very possible that Rand will be appearing in Cage's forthcoming series.
Meanwhile, Daredevil season 2 debuts on Netflix on Friday, March 18, followed by Luke Cage's first season on September 30. Iron Fist and The Defenders as well as Jessica Jones season 2 are expected some point thereafter.
