Noah Hawley’s Emmy Award-winning anthology series Fargo has made huge waves in the entertainment industry across its three seasons to-date. Mixing black comedy and crime, Hawley has done well to intrigue audiences with a selection of different stories, and has most recently brought Ewan McGregor to the small screen as twin brothers Ray and Emmit Stussy. Now though it’s been revealed that the current third season of the series could be its last.
Could Fargo's third season be its last?
Speaking to THR, FX Networks CEO John Landgraf explained: “There may never be another Fargo. Unless Noah has an idea for Fargo that he thinks he can make as good as the prior three. I think once people get to the end of this [season] they will find that it is thematically different. It’s really about the moment we live in now.”
Though the network aren’t exactly saying they want to cancel the show, they do seem to hint that current plans have Fargo at least going on an extended hiatus until Hawley comes up with an idea he thinks can be on a level playing field with the three he’s done prior.
Receiving universal critical acclaim, it’d be a shame to see Fargo shelved, but when a creator thinks they’ve done all they can with a property, it’s perhaps best to leave it alone with a brilliant legacy rather than beat a dead horse.
