'Emmerdale' star Roxy Shahidi says it would be "too boring" if Leyla Harding and Liam Cavanagh have a happy ending.
The 38-year-old actress will see her character on the ITV soap get engaged to Liam (played by Jonny McPherson) this week, but has said she hopes there’s plenty more drama to come in their relationship as she doesn’t want to see them ride off into the sunset just yet.
When asked if Leyla and Liam will have a happy ending, Roxy said: “Absolutely not, too boring! Please no!”
Liam’s proposal is set to be anything but boring though, as when Liam calls upon David Metcalfe (Matthew Wolfenden) to help him plan the proposal and keep Leyla – who is David’s ex-girlfriend – occupied until he’s ready to pop the question, David’s partner Meena Jutla (Paige Sandhu) is left seething with jealousy.
Liam tasks David with finding out Leyla’s ring size, and to do so he decides to slip into Leyla’s bathroom whilst she’s showering so he can nab one of her rings to measure.
But when Meena discovers where David has been, she assumes he’s having an affair and plans her revenge.
When Liam gets down on one knee to ask Leyla to marry him, Meena storms in to ruin the moment, only to be told by David what had really happened.
Jonny said: “Meena reacts totally off the scale. She assumes David and Leyla parading around in front of each other naked is an indication that something’s up.”
And Leyla added: “I don’t think that sounds like too much of a ridiculous conclusion to jump to – they’re walking around in no clothes.”
After Liam’s proposal is interrupted, he’s forced to do it again with a speech from the heart, and an overjoyed Leyla says yes.
