Jeff Hordley has revealed Cain Dingle feels betrayed by his wife Moira and son Nate Robinson.
The 'Emmerdale' actor teased a furious reaction from his alter ego as on-screen mum Faith (Sally Dexter) returns to the village, with Natalie J. Robb's character and Nate (Jurell Carter) refusing to make her leave.
He said: "Cain feels betrayed by Moira. He feels like she's not on side with him. But Moira knows Cain better than anybody else.
"She knows that it would be better for Cain's mum to be around. Deep down, Moira knows the truth behind Cain's feelings about his mum.
"As much as it seems like he doesn't like Faith, he secretly wants her to be part of his life and doesn't want her to be walking out all the time. He wants a mother, basically."
The drama will drive a wedge between Cain and his family, but Jeff reassured fans that his on-screen marriage isn't ending.
He added: "I think with everything they've been through in the last few years, it makes them even stronger.
"Whatever Cain and Moira go through now, they'll always stay together."
Jeff also weighed in on the possibility of Cain and his mum reconciling, and he's sure there's a chance.
He said: "I think so, because Faith brings out a side to Cain that we don't usually see. No other character in the show has the effect that Faith has over Cain.
"Deep down, you've got to take it back to when Cain was 11 years old and Faith walked out on him. All he wants is his mother's love and he turns into that 11-year-old boy again when she's around.
"Faith has this power to affect him and if she asks him to do something, as much as he doesn't want to do it, he would probably do anything for her. Deep down, he's pining for his mother's love."
