Emily Berrington is "slightly robotic".
The 29-year-old actress was unsure where to take it as a compliment when her friends told her she would be "perfect" for her 'Humans' role of Niska - a 'synth', or robot, who looks just like a real person and has human characteristics - but has now "accepted" the likeness between herself and her character.
She said: "When I got the part, a few of my friends said, 'Oh my God, you are perfect for this.' I was like, 'Is that a compliment?'
"I once said the same to Gemma Chan, who plays Anita. We've both accepted we've got something about us that is slightly robotic."
Emily admits the subject matter of the popular drama series has made her think and she has even given up using self-service machines in stores.
She told Grazia magazine: "It's got people's imaginations going. Friends have said the show has made them wonder whether they'd get [a synth] or not for their home.
"When I got the part, I went away and read a lot on artificial intelligence and it's terrifying. It's even made me think about self-service checkouts in supermarkets. I don't use them any more because it should be a human doing the job."
