The former 'Coronation Street' star - who played Faye Windass on the cobbles for 12 years until her final scenes ended in May - is also said to have split from her boyfriend Reagan Pettman recently after five years together, and it's thought the BBC Latin and ballroom could be coming at the right time.

An insider told The Sun newspaper's TVBiz column: "This could be just the tonic for Ellie, who’s had some huge life changes this year and could do with something fresh to focus on.

“As well as splitting from Reagan she left 'Corrie', a show which she effectively grew up on as she joined the cast when she was just a child.

“It’s going to take some adjusting to, but 'Strictly' is part of opening up a new chapter for Ellie."

Meanwhile, the competition will show viewers a new side to Ellie, who didn't get the opportunity to "get glammed up" a lot on screen when she was on the ITV soap.

The source added: “The dance contest will also give her a chance to get glammed up in a way which she rarely did on the cobbles of Weatherfield as Faye was a comparatively frumpy character.

“The only time Ellie was seen dressed to the nines was when she was walking the red carpet at events as herself.”

Back in May, Ellie took to social media to pay tribute to her 'Corrie' character as she noted she will always be "eternally grateful" to have been on the show.

She wrote on Instagram: "Farewell Faye Windass and just like that, 12 years at @coronationstreet has come to end!! At 9 years old I could have never imagined how much this show would change my life.

"I have worked with some of the most incredible people and have learnt so much over the years that i will continue to hold onto for the rest of my life.

"Everyone says we’re like a family at corrie and we really are. From the cast, to the crew, make-up, costume, everyone infront of the camera and behind the cameras are what makes this show so special and i’m eternally grateful to have played a tiny part in that. (sic)"
