Elizabeth Tan found it challenging playing a Thai transgender in 'The Syndicate'.

The 27-year-old actress played Sulim in the drama series alongside Mark Addy - whose alter-ego Alan met the brunette beauty's character on an online website for Thai Brides and invited her to the UK - and the London-born star, who is of Chinese descent, had to put in plenty of hours practicing her accent.

She exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "I love a challenge and I would say the role of Sulim in 'The Syndicate' was a wonderful role.

"It was very challenging having to really create a new character and I did quite a bit of research into getting that Thai accent right and also into her character because she was actually a transgender.

"That was very challenging and also being able to act with Mark Addy, who was very inspiring to work with."

Elizabeth still keeps in touch with Mark - who has appeared in 'The Full Monty', 'Game of Thrones' and 'Trollied' - and she can't wait to see his portrayal of Greek hero Hercules in forthcoming drama 'Atlantis'.

She said: "We are still friends and we still keep in contact. He is currently doing a fantasy TV series called 'Atlantis' where he plays Hercules. That is going to be on our screens later on this year, so I'm very excited to see him in that."

Elizabeth can currently be seen playing Princess Windsor in 'Waterloo Road'.
