A major piece of casting for the second season of Marvel's Daredevil has been revealed, with French actress Elodie Yung set to play popular antihero Elektra Natchios - a trained assassis who's sometimes paramour of Matt Murdoch (Charlie Cox).
In the official release from Marvel, Elektra's described as "a mysterious woman from Matt Murdock's past whose dangerous and exotic ways may be more than he can handle."
A vague reference was made to the character in the first season when Foggy (Elden Henson) talked about Matt's "smokin' hot" Greek college girlfriend.
Yung joins the series alongside Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, AKA The Punisher. Further rumours recently indicated that The Punisher will this season act as the primary antagonist of Daredevil, with Elektra seemingly taking middle ground between the at-odds heroes.
It's also possible that she could be united with Castle in his violent method of getting things done and weeding at villainous criminals around Hell's Kitchen - or she may be completely on the side of good... but that's unlikely.
Jeph Loeb, executive producer and head of Marvel Television commented: "After a worldwide search, we found in Elodie the perfect actress to embody both Elektra's impressive and deadly physicality, as well as her psychological complexity.
"Paired with Charlie as Matt Murdock, the two will bring one of the most beloved and tumultuous comic book relationships to life with all the accompanying sparks and spectacular action sequences the show is known for."
Filming on the second season of Daredevil will begin this week, with casting news expected as scenes get underway.
The show returns to Netflix next year with new showrunners Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez.
