The 22-year-old actress was shocked when she discovered her co-star's crop gathering skills were cut down by scything experts for not being realistic enough and insists he's a "brilliant actor".

Eleanor said: "I don't care [about Aidan's scything technique]. I think it's ridiculous, I really do. I don't think any of us are looking at his scything, to be honest with you.

"He's a brilliant actor. He's very generous as a performer, which is great to work off of. And obviously, we get along very well."

For her role as Demelza Poldark, London-born Eleanor had to master a Cornish accent and she admits speaking with a South West twang was a "challenge".

In an interview on 'Lorraine', she said: "It is a challenge, but I think as well when something is so iconically Cornish, I wanted to get it right. So I spent a lot of time with voice and accent coaches, and I worked very hard at it."

Eleanor will next be seen in 'Alleycats' alongside John Hannah, a big screen thriller set in the world of illegal bike racing and she was keen to land the part to show her versatility as an actress.

She said: "I've done a lot of period drama and I wanted to show a different string to my bow. John Hannah is lovely, he's a great actor as well. So yeah, it's very different and it's a great challenge and we've just finished filming."
