Last week in EastEnders, we saw Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) asking Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) out on a date, but the potential rekindling of this romance could come to an end before it ever really gets off the ground, when Phil starts to catch feelings for none other than Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace).
Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) is furious this week when he discovers that his father is looking to try and sweep Sharon off her feet all over again, whilst Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) is also displeased with Phil’s lack of action when it comes to finding out exactly where her son Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) has disappeared to.
Both accuse Phil of falling for Sharon’s tricks, but he tells them to stay out of his love life before helping Kat out when she needs to borrow a car. As soon as she returns to Walford however, she calls Phil for help once more as the motor breaks down.
Arriving at Walford East for the date, Phil is pulled in a different direction, leaving Sharon hurt and confused, alone at the date and feeling stood up. Embarrassed, she leaves before Phil can even arrive.
Still, when Phil later turns up at the Queen Vic to explain his actions, he suggests that the timing isn’t right for the pair to enter a romantic relationship again anyway.
Could it be that he’s beginning to feel something for Kat instead?
Max Branning (Jake Wood) meanwhile, is gearing up to leave Albert Square for good, but not without making a mark first.
Searching his brother Jack Branning’s (Scott Maslen) house, he finds a USB stick with a load of evidence that could land Phil behind bars for many years. Formulating a plan that will see him leave Walford with a smile, he has Phil over a barrel. What will he ask for in return for his silence?
Coming clean to Sharon about what he’s done, he could have reached the end of the line with his criminal career.
Max also makes more of an enemy with Mick Carter (Danny Dyer) when he accuses his wife Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) of only staying with him out of pity, after finding out Mick was abused as a child.
This leads to a punch-up; looks like Max will be leaving the Square with some bruises!
EastEnders continues Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday on BBC One.
