Shona McGarty is expecting to land a yodelling storyline in 'EastEnders' after she taught herself the singing form during lockdown.

The 29-year-old actress' character Whitney Dean could do with a bit of joy in her life as her latest plot looks set to end in tears yet again as the market trader's fiance Kush Kazemi's (Davood Ghadami) trial is looming.

And that could well be provided by Shona's new singing talents, which involves rapidly changing pitch between low and high.

She said: "I learnt how to yodel. I've always liked the sound of it and I saw this yodel CD and guidebook.

"So I bought it and spent some time doing it.

"I can't believe I just admitted that.

"They'll probably write a yodelling storyline for Whitney now."

As well as busying herself by learning how to yodel, Shona has also turned her hand to art during her spare time, and is learning how to play the harmonica.

She added to new! magazine: "I am also learning the harmonica at the moment.

"I've done a bit of art, too.

"I like abstract, which is a bit easier than portraits and things.

"I just have fun, throwing paint at the canvas and seeing what happens."

Shona recently admitted it was a "sad day" shooting her co-star Davood's exit.

She said: "It was a strange day. We are very close and he's been on the Square for a long time so we're all really good friends.

"It was a sad day but very exciting to film, I know that he was very excited.

"It's big stuff, it's such big stuff that we felt like we were doing a film. It was a really exciting day."
