EastEnders' Kat and Alfie Moon "belong together".
Shane Richie - who plays happy-go-lucky Alfie in the BBC One soap - believes his alter-ego should reignite his flame with his ex-wife (Jessie Wallace) because they have so much history.
However, Tensions have grown high in Albert Square since the pair bonded over the murder of the deceitful Michael Moon (Steve Shepherd) and viewers have been left guessing whether Alfie will abandon his upcoming wedding with Roxy Mitchell (Rita Simmons) for a reunion with his cheating ex-spouse.
Speaking to Soaplife magazine, Shane said: "Alfie and Kat belong together. Nothing makes sense in this world unless there's a Kat and Alfie, but the audience will be split, I should imagine. A lot of people root for Kat and Alfie because there's an 11 year history there.
"He tried to carry on his life without Kat, but it hasn't been easy. Also Kat has changed. She's not the Kat who did what she did. They've both moved on.."
Although Shane has refused to hint at the outcome of the dramatic episode, he admitted viewers will be kept guessing up until the last minute whether Alfie will go through with his wedding.
He explained: "I can't tell you that. You'll have to tune in and see... It's brilliant."
"Alfie has been given a million reasons not to show up at his wedding, but he does... and Kat also walks in with Tommy. A part of Alfie thinks Kat is going to stop the wedding. Meanwhile, Kat doesn't think Alfie is going to go through with it. There's this whole mis-communication thing that they're always doing and Alfie ends up thinking Kat doesn't want him anymore."
