'EastEnders' boss Kate Oates wants to explore new "dynamics" with Kat Moon.
The senior executive producer is keen to see a new side to the mouthy cleaner - who is played by Jessie Wallace - but hasn't ruled out a future for Kat and Alfie Moon (Shane Richie), who is to go missing this week.
Kate said: "I'm excited about moving Kat on with refreshing dynamics. I feel that is really important.
"But with Kat and Alfie they will always have that [bond] and if you wanted to bring it back to that you absolutely could.
"I'm also interested in refreshing it and doing different things. I'll go with anything."
Kate admits she would love to work with Shane again after he "did really well" with his Christmas comeback storyline, which saw him pushed down the stairs on Christmas Day (25.12.18) and left for dead in the Slaters' house only for him to leave when nobody was looking, taking baby Cherry with him.
She added to Express.co.uk: "Shane has created such an icon in Alfie that you never know.
"You don't come back at Christmas for nothing, he did really well with that.
"I would work with Shane again, he's Alfie, he's awesome. At the moment his storyline, he's got a good one."
Prior to the festive plot, Jessie admitted she was thrilled to hear heartbreak was in store for Kat, because she likes to get her teeth stuck into meaty storylines.
She said: "Oh I thought 'this is brilliant'. Getting your teeth into something like this, the meaty side of it all is brilliant; the script, the directing, the writing - I was in my element.
"I just thought thank you! Thank you."
