The 'EastEnders' actress - who first appeared on the soap in 2019 - has opened up after Priya Davdra's character ended their relationship in January after finding out from Ash that her brother Jags (Amar Adatia) is innocent and in prison for a crime he didn't commit, while Iqra's sister Habiba (Rukku Nahar) is pregnant with his baby.

Asked about a reunion, Gurlaine told Digital Spy: "I am going to say never say never. Ash was the first relationship Iqra had after coming out and there will always be a soft spot there.

"For Iqra, I think time will heal as well. She was so angry, shocked and saddened at the time, but I think heartbreak could ultimately bring them back together.

"Maybe experiencing heartbreak with others brings them back together and Iqra realises that nothing is perfect. She suffered heartbreak with Ash but what is to say she won't have it in a new relationship as well? Never say never. That would be really exciting."

Meanwhile, Gurlaine admitted she "loved" their on-screen romance and she was always delighted to hear from viewers who were "helped" by the storyline.

She added: "I loved Iqra and Ash. It was really powerful and a lot of people watching really related to it.

"They would message me and say, 'this has helped me – I am going through something similar and it's made me feel less alone'. In that sense, it was great.

"Obviously, as an actor, you want to explore new things, new stories and work with different people. I have been lucky enough that I've been given the opportunity and with actors who I get on really, really well with."
