Recently, Starzplay – the international streaming service from STARZ – announced that the highly-anticipated third season of DC’s Doom Patrol will begin streaming this November (2021).
Doom Patrol follows an oddball group of heroes who fight for a planet that doesn’t even want them. The characters include Robotman aka Cliff Steele (Brendan Fraser), Negative Man aka Larry Trainor (Matt Bomer), Elasti-Woman aka Rita Farr (April Bowlby), Crazy Jane (Diane Guerrero) and Cyborg aka Victor Stone (Joivan Wade), all led by modern-day crazy scientist Niles Caulder aka The Chief (Timothy Dalton).
Every single member of the Doom Patrol has suffered horrendous accidents that has left them with certain abilities, they are also somewhat scarred or disfigures. Niles made it his mission to save people like Cliff and Rita and bring them together in the hope that they would become something greater than themselves.
Season three of Doom Patrol will lead fans into the climax of the group’s encounter with the Candlemaker; a conflict that results in a devastating loss.
The Doom Patrol is at impasse, and everyone struggles with who they are, and who they wish to be. If things weren’t confusing enough already, a new character enters the fray.
Madam Rouge, played by Michelle Gomez (Doctor Who), arrives in a time machine, much to the surprise of the Doom Patrol. She states that she has an important mission to complete, but she’s having trouble remembering what it was...
Doom Patrol, while rather funny and sarcastic in nature, also shows the characters constantly having issues with their identity; this is a continuing theme within the show and it is such an important one.
If heroes such as Victor and Larry have issues with their self-image, it proves that even the best of us can be unhappy with who we are. It is a surprisingly realistic look into self-acceptance, and is a beautiful theme to carry in a show where each character has been through trauma, but looks to each other for guidance and love.
The exciting third seaosn of Doom Patrol will premiere in the UK on Starzplay on Sunday, November 14th 2021; episodes will release weekly on the streaming service.
