Earlier this week, it was revealed that the upcoming DC Universe digital service had ordered their next original series – a one-hour live-action drama called Doom Patrol. Greg Berlanti, Geoff Johns, Jeremy Carven and Sarah Schechter will all serve as executive producers on the show, which is set to go into production this year for a 13-episode 2019 debut on DC Universe.
Based on DC Characters originally written and drawn by Arnold Drake, Bob Haney and Bruno Premiani, the series will be a “re-imagining of one of DC’s most beloved group of outcast Super Heroes: Robotman, Negative Man Elasti-Girl and Crazy Jane, led by modern-day mad scientist Dr. Niles Caulder (The Chief).”
With each of the members of Doom Patrol having gained their superhuman abilities through horrible accidents, they’re left disfigured, traumatised, scarred and downtrodden. In all of that negativity however, they found purpose through The Chief, who brought the team together to investigate the weirdest phenomena around the world.
Described as “part support group, part Super Hero team”, the Doom Patrol fight for those who would shun them given half the chance.
The show will take place after the events of Titans, and will see the heroes in a place they never thought they’d be. Called to action by Cyborg, and given a mission to complete that they quickly realise they cannot refuse, they soon find out their lives will never be the same.
Doom Patrol comes to DC Universe, from Warner Bros. Digital Networks, at some point in 2019.
