Dominic Brunt can't watch 'Emmerdale' with his family anymore.
The 50-year-old actor - who has played Paddy Kirk on the ITV soap since 1997 - is set to be a focal point of the show's festive storyline as Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) plans his surprise wedding with Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter), but he won't be gathering his loved ones together to see how it plays out.
Appearing on ITV's 'This Morning' on Monday (14.12.20), he said: "It's [Paddy's] version of a big romantic gesture - he's a bit of a wet blanket, really. He always has been.
"I have to say, the episode as a whole is a very, Very Christmassy episode and it's the sort of thing I'd really like to sit down and watch with relations.
"In fact, I used to watch soaps with relations - and 'Emmerdale' - until I realised that they all sit there and go, 'I like him, I don't like her'. That's how people watch it! So, I'm not gonna watch it."
Dominic was being interviewed via video link on the daytime show alongside Mark - who was in a separate dressing room - and the latter admitted his character was a terrible choice to organise the nuptials.
He added: "I don't know what Paddy was thinking really! Marlon's got a sort of track record - his backstory is littered with tragedy and disaster, in terms of marriage.
"So, why Paddy would ask him to organise it, seems backwards. Sure enough it leads to confusion, complication, frustration, arguments, tears and disaster."
Asked what the potential issues could be, Mark, 52, pointed out there are a lot of ways his plan can go wrong.
He explained: "Chaz hates surprises - she hates them. So that's one problem. The other problem is just the technical aspect - where they're going to do it?
"If they're going to do it in the village, how do they keep it secret from her? You've got to get everybody else involved so who do you tell?
"Everybody's a gossip in the village, everybody overhears everything. Keeping it secret's gonna be a nightmare."
