The 50-year-old actor has played Paddy Kirk on the ITV soap for 24 years, but he frets that every year might be his last.

He explained: "Every Christmas when the contract is up, I still think that’s probably it.

"I think that keeps me going, the thought that at any point you could be out. You can’t just wing it, turn up with no ideas.

"So I try hard - but never in my wildest dreams did I think I would have a job this good for so long."

Despite his self-doubts, Dominic hopes to remain on 'Emmerdale' for as long as possible.

He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "I love it. I’m a really big fan of the show and I’m very lucky. I’ve probably dodged a couple of bullets and I never ever take it for granted.

"When difficulties emerge on set I still get nervous. It’s a challenge. I don’t want to look like an idiot in front of six million people watching but I’m literally shaking and feeling a bit sick.

"I still have that imposter syndrome, fearing I’ll get that tap on the shoulder and be told, ‘Dominic, we’ve found out you’re a welder – what are you doing here?’ I still feel like that."

Meanwhile, Dominic revealed he's looking forward to watching the other soaps this Christmas.

The actor predicted the shows will be "cheerful and festive" this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

He said: "I love all of the soaps at this time of year. They are now part of Christmas. The classic 'Corrie' ones as well - I really love them.

"People watch soaps in a different way to anything else. We have all got different opinions on different characters. There are some you love and some you hate.

"But I think the writers are aware that this Christmas the world is awful enough, so I can’t imagine anything too bad happening in soaps this time.

"I think they will all be pretty cheerful and festive."
