The long-running sci-fi show has unveiled a new version of its iconic theme tune, ahead of 'Doctor Who's return later this year.

Alongside an audio clip of the new tune, BBC NOW said on X: "THIS IS WORLD PREMIERE OF THE NEW DOCTOR WHO THEME TUNE!!! [warning light]

'Doctor Who' already boasts one of the most famous TV theme tunes of all time. However, viewers will notice an orchestral update to the theme when the show returns to TV screens this year.

Meanwhile, Ncuti Gatwa was announced as the new Doctor back in 2022, and the actor previously admitted to being "deeply honoured" to have been handed the opportunity.

Ncuti, 30 - who is the first black actor to play the role full-time - said: "There aren’t quite the words to describe how I’m feeling. A mix of deeply honoured, beyond excited and of course a little bit scared.

"This role and show means so much to so many around the world, including myself, and each one of my incredibly talented predecessors has handled that unique responsibility and privilege with the utmost care. I will endeavour my utmost to do the same."

Ncuti also revealed that he was particularly looking forward to working with Russell T Davies.

He said: "Russell T Davies is almost as iconic as the Doctor himself and being able to work with him is a dream come true. His writing is dynamic, exciting, incredibly intelligent and fizzing with danger. An actor’s metaphorical playground."
