Denise Welch has been left "very relieved" after an obsessed fan pleaded guilty to stalking her and starting a fire at her home.
The 'Hollyoaks' actress - who is married to Lincoln Townley - was subjected to months of "terrifying" distress from September 2020 to February this year.
Toraq Wyngard pleaded guilty to arson, possession of a bladed article, criminal damage, and stalking to cause fear, alarm or distress, during a hearing at Chester Crown Court on Monday (27.09.21).
Speaking about the guilty pleas, former 'Coronation Street' actress Denise said in a statement: "Lincoln and I are very relieved that Toraq Wyngard, otherwise known as Todd, has pleaded guilty.
"This has been an incredibly terrifying and stressful time for me and our family.
"We are grateful to the fire service for their prompt action saving our house and to the police for their amazing vigilance and support.
"Special thanks go to the Harm Reduction Unit assigned to us who have guided us through this horrible time every step of the way."
Wyngard had initially denied the charges and was due to face a two-day trial, but he changed his pleas at yesterday's hearing.
DS Dave Thomason, from Cheshire Constabulary’s Harm Reduction Unit, said: "Wyngard’s actions were causing Denise great distress and a trial would have further impacted on her, so I’m pleased that he has now pleaded guilty.
"I’d like to thank Denise for her bravery in coming forward and I hope this reassures other victims that we do listen and take action against those who carry out such distressing crimes in our communities."
A psychiatric report for Wyngard, who has bipolar disorder, was ordered by the judge, Michael Leeming.
The case was adjourned for sentencing on October 26th.
