The 57-year-old actress is set to join the BBC One soap later this spring as bossy boots Alison Slater when she rocks up on Albert Square in a bid to re-build her relationship with her transgender son Kyle Slater (Riley Carter Millington).

Speaking of her new gig, the former 'Loose Women' panellist said: "I'm thrilled to be part of such an iconic show. I have friends in the cast and can't wait to start. It's a short stint but such a powerful role and I'm thrilled to be taking it on."

Denise - who will be almost unrecognisable as she trades her peroxide blonde locks for a brunette 'do - is only scheduled to appear in a few episodes but bosses are open to the idea of giving her a permanent role if she proves a hit.

A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Denise will star in a few episodes that see a lot of focus on her character.

"Alison is finding it difficult to accept her daughter is now her son and the storyline will follow her meeting Kyle for the first time. It will deal with very sensitive issues."

Meanwhile, Denise is no stranger to soap operas as she previously starred in 'Coronation Street' as barmaid Natalie Barnes for three years from 1997 until 2000.

She's also appeared on 'Holby City', 'Casualty', 'Benidorm', 'Where the Heart Is' and 'The Bill', to name a few.
