'Strictly Come Dancing' bosses have been rejecting Debbie McGee for years.

The 58-year-old television personality - who is the wife of the late comedian Paul Daniels - has wanted to take part in the ballroom and latin show for a while now but "for whatever reason" she hasn't been selected for the star-studded line up.

She told the Daily Star newspaper: "I would love to do 'Strictly Come Dancing'. I have been put up for it before but for whatever reason I haven't been chosen. I did ballet when I was young, I think that can be a disadvantage as you are very upright in ballet. But I am much older and I have not danced for years. I think I would be quite stiff now."

Debbie tried to persuade producers last year to give her a space on the show as she thought it would be the perfect tribute to her husband Paul - who died in 2016 from a brain tumour - as he also competed on the programme in 2010.

She said at the time: "Paul was on 'Strictly Come Dancing' and that's something I'd just love to do in his memory. I'm getting my agent to ring them. I've written it on my list of things to get finalised. I would love to do it."

However, the pint-sized star isn't sure who she will be partnered with if she does manage to creep on to the line up because Artem Chigvintsev is no longer there.

She said: "I'm not sure who they would partner me up with because they keep changing all the professionals. The best choreographer they had was Artem Chigvintsev."

Meanwhile, this year's show will be somewhat different as head judge Len Goodman turned his back on the programme at the end of the last series and is set to be replaced by someone else - although bosses are yet to choose their candidate.
