David Suchet lost two-and-a-half stone for the last episode of 'Poirot' because the titular character is in a bad way for the finale..
The 67-year-old actor portrays the titular Belgian detective Hercule Poirot, the creation of English crime writer Agatha Christie for the last time tonight (13.11.13) when the 25-year-old series comes to an end. Suchet had to lose the weight for the finale because Poirot is in a bad way.
He said: "It was the first time Agatha Christie ever changed his physical appearance, ever, in all her books, and it was the first time I've never worn padding as the character.
"I lost two-and-a-half stone and they put prosthetics on my hands because he is riddled with arthritis and in a wheelchair."
David admits his emotions will be all over the place when he settles down with his wife Sheila Ferris to watch the last ever episode.
Speaking on 'This Morning' today, he added: "I find it extraordinary that I'm sat here talking to you about the fact that it is the end ... I can't believe it either. Those 25 years ... where has it gone and how has it happened? I don't know.
"It is genuinely like saying goodbye to your best friend. I have a big career outside of 'Poirot', but 'Poirot' will always remain with me. No one knew whether we would actually finish it [and complete them all] it was never in the grand design.
"Because it's on tonight, its a big day for me and tonight I will be sitting down with my wife and we will watch the end ... and my emotions today are extraordinary, they really are like a yo-yo going up and down. It's an odd thing because I didn't expect it so I didn't know how to prepare for it."
