David Baddiel's dad passed away on Tuesday (18.01.22) evening.
The 57-year-old comedian has taken to Twitter to announce his dad's death, and David admitted that he'll leave a "huge hole in [his] sky".
Alongside a throwback photo of his dad, David wrote on the micro-blogging platform: "My dad Colin Baddiel died earlier tonight. Thank so much to all of you who sent unbelievably lovely messages about him in response to all my posts over the years. He leaves a huge hole in my sky."
Colin was previously diagnosed with Pick's disease, which is a type of frontotemporal dementia.
David's post prompted a string of sympathetic and supportive messages from various people within the TV industry.
Comedy star Sarah Millican wrote: "So sorry for your loss David x (sic)"
Jenny Eclair said: "Oh David, that's so sad, love to you all (sic)"
Piers Morgan also expressed his sympathy on social media.
He wrote on Twitter: "So sorry to hear this, David. He seemed such a wonderful character and I loved your relationship. RIP Colin. (sic)"
David later added: "Thanks so much for all your incredible messages of support. It all so helps. I’d like to also thank while I’m here @bowles_clive , Sandra Wiseman and all the other amazing carers who helped look after my dad for the last seven years. (sic)"
David previously opened up about the type of relationship that he and his brother Ivor had with their dad, admitting it was "mainly abusive banter".
The TV star shared: "I've never had a Hollywood father-son relationship with my dad, it's mainly abusive banter. But now what has happened is the dementia has made it more extreme.
"I think I would like to have some proper emotional connection with him before he dies … But I don't know how that is going to happen now."
