Danny-Boy Hatchard has joined the cast of 'Our Girl'.
The former 'EastEnders' actor - who played Lee Carter in the soap for three years until his exit in 2017 - will star as Private Rhett 'Cheese' Charlton in the upcoming fourth series of the BBC One drama, and he has praised the way the show has portrayed the "British troops".
He said: "I'm buzzing to be joining the iconic 2 Section. 'Our Girl' has always done a fantastic job representing our British troops, so I can't wait to help tell more really cool stories."
According to a press release, Cheese is "confident and cool", and "not short of swagger" with a fondness for practical jokes.
However, it's said that he has a "darker side" with a "manipulative edge" just under the surface.
Cheese's history with another of the recruits is one "they'd much rather forget", and the fact he can take jokes too far "will have dangerous consequences across the series".
In May, Michelle Keegan - who stars in the drama as Georgie Lane - returned to South Africa to begin shooting the fourth season of Tony Grounds' hit series.
The 31-year-old actress said at the time: "It is such a joy to reprise the role of Georgie Lane and this season we return to Afghanistan where the British Army retains a presence training Afghan National Army personnel.
"With some of the most incredible and explosive scripts I've ever read, this 6 part story will rip the heart out of our loyal fan base and new viewers alike."
The fourth series of the show will see Georgie living back home in Manchester after being promoted to Sergeant, and now training a new bunch of medics.
But when a night on the town results in a near-fatal incident, Georgie realises she needs to return to Afghanistan.
