The 59-year-old comedian took part in the creepy-crawly show last year and, although he was the first campmate to be given the boot despite being put in a week after the rest of contestants, he would love to see his close friend sign up to the forthcoming series because he thinks he would be "brilliant" and could potentially win it.

Speaking to BANG Showbiz at the National Television Awards, held at London's O2 Arena, on Wednesday (25.01.17), he said: "It is true the pair of us were inseparable for so long me and Paul, and then he moved down to Sussex so we hardly see each other. But we were man and boy when we started in this game. He should always do the Jungle, it's an absolute privilege to do. [He would be] brilliant. He usually wins things Paul, but he wouldn't win it. But he would be brilliant because it's mainly sitting around telling stories, and he has a massive gift for."

And the footballing legend - who has battled with alcoholism for many years - won't be thrown in at the deep end as his daughter Bianca Gascoigne is currently doing 'Celebrity Big Brother' and should be able to pass on some tips.

The busty blonde would even like her father to make a cameo appearance in the house this year but may have run out of time as she's been put up for eviction after cheating on her boyfriend with Jamie O'Hara.

A source said recently: "She is really hoping her doing the show will give him something to look forward to.

"Bianca wants nothing more than for Paul to be happy and well again. She wants to show her family in a good light."
