The 43-year-old actress has battled drug addiction for years and her son Kai, 20, admitted seeing her struggle has been devastating for him.

He told The Sun on Sunday: "When I was little, I found Mum having a fit after an overdose and the memory is vivid.

"I still have flashbacks. I've been scared Mum would die so many times.

"Do I know Mum's not going to die? I can't guarantee it.

"If you play with the Devil, the Devil will play with you.

"But she's a fighter. She wants to get better, but a lot of people have lost confidence in her."

Danniella battled a serious cocaine addiction and while Kai says he would never try that drug, he has "dabbled" with cannabis.

He said: "I won't touch cocaine as long as I live because growing up with Mum I've seen how bad it can get. It twists you in the head.

"But I smoke, and have smoked cannabis."

Danniella, who famously lost her septum in 2000 due her excessive use of cocaine, sunk into deep depression earlier this year after she developed septicaemia - blood poisoning caused by bacteria or their toxins - in the roof of her mouth and, things got so bad after she split with her toy boy boyfriend George Arnold in August, that she tried to overdose on tablets.

She said: "I was so depressed and George just got up one morning and he was gone. But he had his reasons and I wasn't very easy to live with because I was so depressed at the time because of the way I looked, I couldn't earn money and I felt I'd let him and the kids down. He didn't see it like that ... I did relapse because I felt my whole world was over when he just got up and went. It was like he'd never been there. I tried to overdose when George walked out but it turned out he never had a girlfriend before me and it was very difficult.

"When you relapse and you take drugs, you don't see that [leaving the kids]. All you see is selfishness and a way out."
