Dancing On Ice this week saw the six celebrities who took the week off last weekend take the ice, battling it out for a place at the top of the leaderboard and of course, trying to impress the viewing public, who could vote for their favourites and ensure they go through to next week.
Cheryl Baker was one of the celebrities competing alongside her professional partner Dan Whiston, and whilst the two only got a collaborative score of 11.5 out of 40 from the judges, they sailed through to the next round of the competition.
It was judge Jason Gardiner’s comments to Cheryl, in which he said she looked like somebody on a “Stannah Stair Lift” during her routine, that had the former Bucks Fizz member nearly in tears, and viewers weren’t happy.
Taking to Twitter to voice their disappointment, one user wrote: “Jason should be sacked after that stair lift comment.”
Another wrote: “Jason was really rude mentioning a stair lift! That’s not critique. Well done Cheryl.”
Gardiner is renowned for his tough comments on the show, and despite the series being on hiatus for the past few years, it would look like he’s ready to take the role of panto villain straight back and in his stride.
Still, not everybody has taken the comment to Cheryl to heart, with some finding the humour in what the judge said.
Whether you agree or disagree with how harsh Gardiner’s comments can be, it’s unlikely the judge will be willing to change in the future. He’s always courted controversy during his time with Dancing On Ice, and has become a staple part of the show. We imagine he’d have to do something extremely bad to be reprimanded.
Dancing On Ice continues next Sunday (January 21) at 6pm on ITV.
