'Dancing On Ice' is set to return without Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean.

The figure skating show was axed after the former Olympic duo decided to quit, reports now claim it could be back for a tenth series without the influential pair.

Speaking to the Daily Star Sunday newspaper, an insider said: "ITV own the format rights so there's nothing stopping them bringing it back without its main stars. The general feeling is the show is bigger than Jayne and Chris.

"At the beginning it relied on their fame to bring in the viewers but now it's bigger than that. It's not a done deal yet but ITV bosses are already discussing the possibility.

"The most likely scenario is it will be rested for a year and then brought back in 2016."

Meanwhile, head judge Robin Cousins agreed the show could continue without its famous duo.

He added: "The format can work without Jayne and Christopher. The question is whether they would want it to."

Pro-skater Matt Evers - who is paired with Suzanne Shaw on the current and potentially final series of the show - also admitted a return is a definite possibility.

He said: "I really wouldn't be surprised."
