Dan Walker's daughter was in tears as she watched her dad take to the 'Strictly' dancefloor for the first time.

The newsreader has revealed that although his teenage daughter was initially worried about being embarrased by her dad's dancing, she soon changed her tune when she saw him person.

Dan said: "“My 14-year-old was in the audience last weekend and she was worried about me embarrassing her. I looked up and saw tears coming down her face and she gave me this lovely little proud wave and mouthed, ‘Well done, I love you’.

The 44-year-old TV presenter is paired up with Nadiya Bychkova for the latest series of the Saturday night favourite where he danced the quick step on his debut, scoring a respectable 24 points.

He added: "“I don’t think you can get much better than that – having a daughter who’s proud of her dad.”

It comes after a rocky start for the TV star, who had to be rushed to hospitalt when he launched into a glass door in rehearsals just days before the series started.

He told The Mirror: ": “I flew back about two metres then landed on the floor. I thought I’d knocked my teeth out because there was blood pouring out of my mouth, but I’d actually bit a chunk out of my tongue. The next day I was feeling woozy so went to hospital to have a brain scan. They found I had mild concussion and I wasn’t allowed to dance for three days. I’ve still got a big lump on my head.”
