The soap star - who has played Gemma Winter on the cobbles since 2014 - has credited the Manchester Pride parade and the city's own openness with helping her feel comfortable with her own sexuality.

In an advert for this year's celebrations, she said: "I have been coming to Pride for over a decade now.

"The love and acceptance shown by the people of Manchester allowed me to accept my bisexuality and be proud of who I am."

The actress - who is an ambassador for Manchester Pride - also heaped praise on the organisation and the work it does to help members of the LGBTQ+ community.

She added: "The work that Manchester Pride does throughout the year to engage with and create opportunities for people in Manchester's LGBTQ+ community and beyond makes a huge difference to so many people's lives."

In the new clip, she also performs a poem called 'Mine is the Pride', and she has described the role in the video as "an honour".

She told the Manchester Evening News: "t was an honour to do the voiceover for this video. Manchester Pride is one of my favourite times of the year in Manchester.

"It is a time when everyone comes together to show that love and kindness will always triumph over hate and prejudice."

Dolly-Rose has earned praise for her 'Corrie' role over the years, including the Funniest Female prize at the Inside Soap Awards in 2017.
