The cast of ‘Coronation Street’ is reportedly planning to do “all they can" to get Ellie Leach to the final of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The 22-year-old actress left her role as Faye Windass on the ITV1 soap opera earlier this year after more than a decade but an insider has alleged that the decision to quit was not her own and that bosses “did not see a future” for her on the cobbles.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “Everyone has vowed to do all they can to get Ellie to the final of Strictly as a ‘f*** you’ to bosses. It was made clear to her earlier this year they didn’t see a future for her character so she was left with no choice. At the time she said she had quit but it was always seen as an axe.”
The source went on to allege that Ellie’s departure from the soap opera caused “major upset” at the ITV studios and they now plan to make her a “big star” on the rival network.
“It caused major upset behind the scenes because co-stars felt she was treated really badly.
“So they want her to become a big BBC star and stick two fingers up to the powers that be.”
Ellie – who started playing Faye on ‘Coronation Street’ when she was just nine years old - will take to the dancefloor alongside ‘EastEnders’ star Nigel Harman, TV legend Les Dennis, and ‘Bad Education’ actor Layton Williams, amongst a host of others.
Speaking on BBC Breakfast when the news was revealed, she said: “It still doesn’t feel real that I’m going to be doing 'Strictly'!
"It’s always been a dream of mine so I guess dreams really do come true!"
