The 'Coronation Street' actress - who has played Eileen Grimshaw on the ITV soap since 2000 - has opened up working with the cobbles newcomer, who has been cast as her character Eileen's son Todd following Bruno Langley's exit three years ago.

Discussing their screen tests together, she said: "When we did the casting, we saw a few people for the chemistry part, to see how we all worked.

"It was just instant. The minute he got on the set, there was an essence of him that I knew I could relate to.

"There was the essence of Todd – the bad boy but with the very lovable and vulnerable side."

Sue has been impressed with her new co-star, and she admitted they found it difficult to "keep a straight face" during their first scene together.

She added: "He just hit the nail on the head and it was so easy. And since we've been working, it's just felt like we've been working together for ages. In our very first scene, we were having problems trying to keep a straight face.

"He's so good. He's such a subtle actor, with great nuances, and he's just a really, really good performer. He's just slotted in perfectly."

Former Todd actor Bruno was previously sacked after he was convicted of sexual assault following an incident at a Manchester nightclub in 2017.

He admitted to two offences of sexual assault at Manchester Magistrates Court, but avoided jail and was sentenced to a 12-month community order.

The ruling also saw him ordered to complete 40 days of rehabilitation activity.
