Coronation Street's Steve McDonald is to have a cancer scare.
The ITV soap's pub landlord and taxi driver - who is played by actor Simon Gregson - is to discover a suspicious looking mole on his arm and jump to the worst conclusion, leaving his family and friends horrified at the prospect of him developing skin cancer.
Steve will be caught inspecting his arm by girlfriend Michelle Connor (Kym Marsh) before admitting he thinks he's developed the disease.
He confesses: "It's a mole and what's more, it wasn't there before, I'm sure of it.
"I could have skin cancer, I've been Googling it, it's classic melanoma.
"I'm not imagining it and I know why it's there.
"I stick that arm out of the window when I'm driving. I always roll my sleeves up in the summer.
"It makes sense. I tick everything on the list - pale skin, blue eyes, red hair, my dad is Irish."
However, rather unsympathetically, Michelle will assume her partner is being overdramatic and, along with his mother Liz McDonald (Bev Callard), will order him to go to the doctors to find out once and for all.
An insider told the Daily Star newspaper: "It's probably nothing but Steve has got it in his head that this mole is something sinister.
"But there's a message there, that if anyone is suspicious about a mole then it's best to get it checked."
