Former ‘Coronation Street’ legend Sean Wilson was once left bleeding after his late co-star Lynne Perrie whacked him around the head with a bag of coins.
The 56-year-old actor - who played Martin Platt on the ITV soap from 1985 to 2005, before making a brief return in 2018 – reminisced of his time on the cobbles as he revealed the injury occurred while shooting a scene.
Ivy Tilsley - who was played by actress Lynne, who died aged 74 in 2006 – had taken offence to Martin’s relationship with her on-screen daughter Gail Tilsley (Helen Worth).
He said: “He’s in the pub and playing darts and Ivy came in and sees Martin and takes him to task.
“He is being a bit flippant. He becomes a bit more flippant once too often and she takes her handbag – which was in the script – and hits him with her bag around the face.
“Fair enough, we are all prepared for it so we go for a take and she hits me with this bag – it was full of bags of 50ps. She’d been to the bank and bought all these bags of 50ps. I had blood coming down from my ear.”
Sean admitted Lynne could be unpredictable at times.
He added: “It depended on which Lynne Perrie was going to turn up,”
“When she was on it she was like a diamond, she was on it and you could so tell and that’s why she was employed. She was class but then of course - sometimes you didn’t know who was going to turn up.”
Sean, who was used to being in controversial storylines, admitted that he eventually quit the show because producers had asked too much of him when they wanted him to play a paedophile.
Speaking to the 'Distinct Nostalgia' podcast, he said: “The producer and writers had a penchant for throwing controversial storylines at me, which was great. But the final one they put to me was that I was going to start seeing a 14-year-old girl and I just said, ‘I’m not doing that.’ "
