Coronation Street's Sam Aston has got engaged.
The 23-year-old actor - who portrays kebab worker Chesney Brown in the soap - got down on one knee on stage over the weekend and popped the question to his girlfriend Briony Gardner, who he's been dating for five years, in front of an audience.
Taking to his Instagram account on Monday (19.06.17), the flame-haired star uploaded a photograph of him proposing to his blonde lover and accompanied it with the sweet caption: "Me and my beautiful bride to be... (sic)"
Briony also shared the same shot and wrote: "After sharing over 5 years together, 4 Al, Andy and Sam golf days and 3 doggies, 2 hearts have now become 1 as Sam and I are...ENGAGED!! (How is it possible I can even say that out loud?!).
"Sam got down on one knee last night at his annual golf do and proposed in front of 250 people and my heart could burst with happiness!! (When did I get so lucky?!).
"I can't wait to marry my whole world but until then, I'm just floating in this bliss called love. I love you @samaston93. (sic)"
The pair first met eight years ago at a Theatre Workshop in Bury and quickly became friends, and in 2012 they decided to turn their platonic relationship into a romantic one.
And Sam certainly isn't afraid to think outside of the box when it comes to surprising his other half as he admitted four years ago that he's actually very "romantic."
He said at the time: "I do think I'm romantic. I like to treat my girlfriend, buy her flowers and make a fuss of her.
"We had a little bit of a tiff recently and I felt really bad afterwards, so I got her a 'Sorry' card to apologise. I thought that was a pretty smooth move."
