‘Coronation Street’ star Charlie Lawson has married his long-time love Debbie Stanley.
The 64-year-old actor - who played Jim McDonald on the ITV1 soap on and off between 1989 and 2018 - tied the knot with his 59-year-old fiancee in a romantic ceremony at Shrigley Hall Hotel and Spa officiated by broadcaster Eamonn Holmes, 63, with his on-screen son Simon Gregson serving as best man and a guest list that featured fellow stars like 'Corrie' actresses Kym Marsh and Alison King as well as Slade frontman Noddy Holder and many more.
Charlie - who has been in a relationship with Debbie for more than 20 years - told OK! magazine: “We actually legally got married at Macclesfield Registration Office two weeks before the proper wedding, with just three witnesses, so Eamonn could do the service.
Charlie - who has been married twice before and has daughter Laura from his first jaunt up the aisle - gushed about his “really good” pal Eammon and their times together.
He said: "Eamonn and myself have both been in TV a long time and we've met over the years and become really good friends - we're very similar human beings. Famously, over the years, Eamonn has participated in lots of ceremonies – including George Best's funeral – and I couldn't think of anyone else better to oversee our wedding.”
The former ‘This Morning’ host joked about how fun he found the honour and quipped about finding a new career.
Eammon said: I should maybe become some sort of preacher.”
Charlie also praised his impromptu best man, Simon, who has played his on-screen son Steve McDonald for more than 30 years.
He said: My great friend Neil Morrissey couldn’t make the wedding as he’s starring in a West End show, so Simon stepped in to fill the best man position – and I wasn’t remotely disappointed.”
I’ve known Simon since he was 14, he’s a great friend and did a fantastic job."
Simon - who played Steve McDonald - even got Debbie laughing.
She said: "Simon’s speech was unbelievable. He spends a lot of time at home with us so he knows us really well. He joked about some of the things he was going to say, and I told him, 'No, please don’t say things like that.' But he’s a comedian, so it was really funny.”
