The 'Coronation Street' legend - who played Les Battersby for a decade on the cobbles until his exit in 2007 - is set to be part of an independent wrestling event in Manchester early next year.

Speaking to the 'Cultaholic Wrestling' podcast, he said: "It seems surreal – I’m looking forward to it but I’m a bit scared of it. The reaction has been amazing.

“People in the industry have said, ‘you’re starting wrestling, so you’re not going back to Coronation Street?’

"I always say ‘never say never.’ ”

He will make his first appearance for Sovereign Pro Wrestling (SOVPRO) on February 18, 2024 at the company's 'It's Dark and Hell is Hot' event.

Bruce has also confirmed he will make his entrance to the iconic 'Corrie' theme song.

Announcing Bruce's appearance, SOVPRO previously wrote on X (formerly Twitter): "This is not a drill. This is not a parody.

From the infamous cobbles of Weatherfield, The Champion of the Rovers Return, THE Les Battersby makes his SOVPRO debut on Feb 18th."

Bruce added at the time: "Come and join the wrestlers and me as Les 18th February 2024 for my debut."

Although he'll be reprising his memorable role for the event, the soap star previously admitted it "gets on his nerves" when people use the character name in real life.

Back in 2020, he said: "Les' character will never go. I sometimes say, 'My name's not Les, it's Bruce,' especially when it is just someone shouting it across the room. It really does get on my nerves."

And Bruce says he simply doesn't acknowledge people if they use his former taxi driver character's name to address him.

He was quoted by the Daily Star newspaper as saying: "I just ignore it. My name is not Les."
