Claudia Winkleman “almost cried” hearing Angela Rippon was joining ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The 51-year-old presenter dubbed it “an honour” that the 79-year-old legendary broadcaster decided to compete in this year’s edition of the BBC One star-studded Latin and ballroom competition, as the host also praised the rest of the “great lineup”.
She told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “It’s such an honour that Angela Rippon would say yes, we almost all cried.
“Annabel Croft is a national treasure. Every single one of the celebrities is great. I love the fact that it spans all ages."
Claudia admitted she doesn’t “know how” the contestants manage to do two dances in one show - which is judged by Shirley Ballas, 63, Craig Revel-Horwood, 58, Motsi Mabuse, 42, and Anton Du Beke, 42 - as it seems like a lot of work.
She added: “I also love it when they go to two routines in one week. I don’t know how they do it. That’s always quite tense."
The BBC Radio 2 DJ feels she would “be absolutely terrible” on the programme if she ever tried.
She confessed: “I’d be absolutely terrible. I can’t remember what I had for breakfast, let alone where my foot should go.”
‘The Piano’ host praised her co-host Tess Daly, 54, for being the “loveliest person” and the live music set up led by Dave Arch.
Claudia said: “Tess is the loveliest person in the whole world.
“As well as our amazing pros, I have to mention Dave Arch, the work he had his band the live singers do is phenomenal.”
Claudia also gushed about the upcoming tour - which currently includes the likes of ‘Coming Dancing’ presenter, Layton Williams, 29, and Ellie Leach, 22 - and labelled it a fantastic way to conclude the “fab experience” of ‘Strictly’.
She said: “The tour means more sequins - lots and lots of sequins! I couldn’t think of a better way to end this fab experience.”
