The 'Apprentice' star - who has replaced Nick Hewer as Lord Alan Sugar's right-hand man on the upcoming 11th series - insists he didn't get attached to any of the candidates hoping to win a £250,000 investment, despite observing them every day for a number of weeks.
Speaking at the launch of the new series, he said: "I don't tend to get emotional about anything. I'm really there as an observer - I'm not their friend. I'm not trying to tell them what to do. It's just me observing, trying not to show any emotion at all at some of the decisions they make and then reporting back."
However, Claude admitted that he did feel sorry for the candidates - who include a former beauty queen and a Hugh Hefner wannabe - on occasion.
Asked if he found anything about his new role difficult, he explained: "Certainly getting up early every single morning and then working until quite late at night was difficult. But don't underestimate the difficulties for the candidates, because they are under scrutiny all the time. They're under stress, they've got to work in teams.
"It's no wonder sometimes that they come up with some silly ideas. It is tough physically - there's no doubt about it. They're pushed very, very hard."
The new series of 'The Apprentice' stars next Wednesday, October 14 at 9pm on BBC One.
